#22 Michael Miller on Trail Running, Ultra Marathons, and Discomfort
In episode 22 of the becoming human podcast, I sit down with Michael Miller to discuss trail running, ultra marathons, and tempering your mentality. Trail running is very fascinating, as with any difficult pursuit, you get to know yourself more and your ability to cope with life, grows. When you’re strong enough you can see vast stretches of the wild and you’ll know a certain solitude. I thought it was going to be an uncomfortable experience and it was at times but I also enjoyed it deeply at other times. After doing it regularly, I stopped aching and I noticed my day to day energy levels were higher, when I hit the trails, my body was excited instead of bracing itself against the discomfort. Over time, my body began to enjoy and crave the experience, as if some benign stockholm syndrome, I aquired the taste to run trails.
